Music from the church has always been a part of Country Blues. This explores several styles of fingerpicking gospel tunes, starting in the key of C and two well known songs played in the styles of Mississippi John Hurt and Elizabeth Cotten. “Ill Fly Away” introduces a right hand technique that combines fingerstyle with strumming, adding a different texture to your playing. He then moves to playing in open tunings, such as “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” played in an Open G Tuning. Finally Open D tuning to learn “Death Come Creeping” and “Will The Circle Be Unbroken.” Two bonus sections are included; how to change your guitar strings so they will not slip, and audio recordings showing variations and other approaches to the tunes taught.
