Ailbhe McDonagh is a celebrated Irish composer with works for orchestra, chamber music and solo instruments. Notable commissions include her Irish Isles Suite recorded by the RT Concert Orchestra, the Irish Four Seasons recorded by violinist Lynda OConnor, String Quartets No. 1 and No. 2, Dance Suite for Solo Cello and Westland Glow an eight-hand piece for piano. Ailbhe has also written pedagogical music including her It’s a Piano Thing and It’s a Cello Thing repertoire books published by Boosey & Hawkes. As a cellist, Ailbhe performs as a soloist and chamber musician. She recently released an album of the complete Bach Suites and also the complete Beethoven Cello Sonatas with pianist John OConor on the Steinway label.
